Configure an Automation in ActiveCampaign
ActiveCampaign allows you to automate the flow of information through their Automations feature. An automation begins when certain trigger circumstances are met. The automation then causes other specified events to take place.
For Callingly, your Automation will need to add a Tag to a Contact. The addition of this Tag will prompt Callingly to begin the call flow. Callingly can subsequently Tag your Lead in ActiveCampaign after the call is attempted or completed.
To create an Automation, from inside of your ActiveCampaign account:
- 1.
- Hit the Automations tab on the left side of the screen.
- 2.
- Click the Create an automation button in the upper right corner of the page.
- 3.
- Select Start from Scratch in the Create an Automation box that pops up.
- 4.
- Click the blue Continue button in the lower right corner of the popup.
- 5.
- Select a trigger that will start the automation from the new window that appears. For example, completing a lead form will begin your automation.
- 6.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for the type of trigger you’ve selected.
- 7.
- Hit the button to add actions to the automation.
- 8.
- Select the Contacts tab in the Add a New Action box that pops up.
- 9.
- Select the Add a tag option to add tags to your automation.
- 10.
- Type Callingly - Start Call in the text input box. If the automation you’re creating is intended to add a different Callingly tag, type that tag instead.
- 11.
- Save your tag before closing the window.
Sync the Deal Owner with Your Users
Leads coming into your ActiveCampaign account might be assigned to a Deal Owner. In this case, you'll want to ensure the Deal Owner is synced with your Users in Callingly.
- 1.
- Head to the Users page in Callingly.
- 2.
- Hit the edit Edit button of the User that you want to change.
- 3.
- Select the correct user from the ActiveCampaign User dropdown menu.
- 4.
- Save your edits.
When a Lead with a Deal Owner is synced into Callingly, the Lead will maintain that relationship with your user as the deal owner.

Next Steps
- Test the integration by creating a new fake lead in your ActiveCampaign account. This should automatically call Callingly, which will route the phone call to the phone number you provided when you signed up for your trial.
- Create your Team. Right now, you're the only one who's going to receive calls through Callingly — that's no good! Create your Callingly Team so they can start answering calls.
- Set the call schedule. Once you've added your team, you'll want to set the schedule for when they can receive calls. This way, nobody will receive a call outside of work hours.
Common Questions
How do I send calls to different teams?
You can do this by setting up a second instance of the ActiveCampaign integration using the same steps outlined above. You can have as many instances as you like: simply use a unique Start Call Tag and a unique Team for each instance.
How do I stop any further calls if a user contacts a lead outside of Callingly?
You can do this by setting up an automation in ActiveCampaign using the steps outlined above. You’ll have the automation add the tag Callingly - Stop Calls. As soon as a lead is tagged in ActiveCampaign, Callingly will be notified, and no further calls will be scheduled.
How do I ensure the right fields sync between ActiveCampaign and Callingly?
On the Integrations page in Callingly, select the fields from ActiveCampaign that match the Callingly fields. Simply choose the appropriate item for ActiveCampaign from the dropdown menu for each Callingly field. We provide more detail about this in the field mapping section above.
